Homewood Hotel and Spa

ABOUT HOMEWOOD

Homewood Hotel and Spa is a privately owned luxury countryside hotel in Somerset, UK.  The ten acre property welcomes guests with an elegant mixture of historic architecture and modern luxury, complete with fine dining, plush rooms, and spa amenities

THE CHALLENGE

Setting itself apart from other boutique hotels, and enhancing the guest experience of its outdoor spaces, Homewood recognized a need for completing the atmosphere by adding the right touch of audio. Adding an audio system would be a great complement to their stunning outdoor terrace dining, but it had to be discreetly hidden and it had to provide an even, balanced listening experience for the comfort of the guests. The music had to be loud enough for guests to be drawn in, but low enough for comfortable conversation.

METHODOLOGY

In order to provide an even and balanced listening experience throughout the terrace, Tim and his team installed Sonance Landscape Series. The system includes 16 satellite speakers that are staked along the perimeter, and two 12” in-ground subwoofers. Their strategic placement allow the system to blend in while blanketing the space with comfortable music.

BEYOND EXPECTATION

“We’ve discovered that the excellent detail and bandwidth available from Sonance actually allows the system to run at a lower volume level while keeping the perception of audio quality. In this way the system produces a relaxing backdrop, encouraging social interaction without competing with it. It’s perfect for the subtle but enveloping audio quality and control that Ian was seeking for the terrace.”

Rancho Santa Fe Residence

ABOUT THE HOME

A stunning, airy estate tucked into the gentle hills just inland of San Diego, California, this Rancho Santa Fe home maximizes the use of natural light and open space for a grand feeling of elegance.

“When we walked into this home to see it after completion, I noticed something felt really magical. Beautiful natural light flows throughout, the artfully designed open concept invites you in, and exquisitely even, balanced music playing from completely invisible speakers puts you perfectly at ease.”

ADAM BOEHRER, SONANCE MARKETING TEAM

THE CHALLENGE

With elegance and simplicity of the utmost importance, creating a system for this stunning home had to include the most design-conscious solutions. The homeowner, a well known interior design professional, wanted to enjoy the comforts and luxuries that technology brings to a home without the distraction of bulky hardware and equipment. This exquisite home design prioritized natural light and beautiful, yet subtle stone accent walls. To make her dream home a reality, the homeowner enlisted the support of builder Herbst Construction, and technology experts, Modern Home Systems. Having worked with both teams of experts before, the homeowner knew her project would be in great hands.

REQUIREMENTS

The ultimate goal for this design-forward home was to incorporate technology that is designed to disappear throughout. The minimalist
aesthetic along with the open floor plan made lighting and speakers with no sight lines a must. The whole system needed to be easy to use and the music comfortable to listen to.

METHODOLOGY

Modern Home Systems utilized a collection of technologies to promote simplicity and elegance throughout the home. As an audio solution, Sonance Invisible Series speakers were installed. These speakers boast no compromise in audio quality or design, outperforming most traditional in-ceiling and in-wall speakers without the distraction of speaker grilles. Lutron Palladiom Keypads provided an easy to use, all-in-one system with a beautiful flush aesthetic thanks to Sonance’s TRUFIG mounting technology.

BEYOND EXPECTATION

“This is a house that feels like a home. Each room is unique, but they each intentionally flow together. The attention to detail in construction is obvious. The minimalism speaks for itself.”

The Point DC

The Point DC

ABOUT THE POINT DC

Stationed at the tip of Buzzard Point in Washington D.C., where the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers meet, The Point D.C. waterfront restaurant occupies the building of the former U.S. Coast Guard headquarters and former FBI Headquarters.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Best-in-class fidelity and performance for 70V/100V applications  that disappears into the design of each zone
  • Find an audio solution with common voicing and even, balanced coverage to connect with people in each zone for world class ambiance anywhere on the property
  • Weatherproof rated audio solution that can withstand the elements on the outdoor patio
  • Simple and easy to use system for the staff to use with ease
  • Audio system that is capable of adjusting to provide ambient music or more powerful sound for larger private events

THE CHALLENGE

With a reputation for amazing cuisine and world-class ambiance, the D.C. based hospitality group Fish & Fire Food Group knew that they wanted to create a space that would not only be aesthetically pleasing and draw customers in, but also incorporated the highest quality, yet easy to use, audio system that would set them apart from other local restaurants.

With numerous zones throughout the 12,500 square foot property, including 22-foot ceilings with exposed ductwork in the main dining room, a private dining room, and an outdoor patio area, the challenge was to deliver best-in-class sound, while ensuring volume levels were comfortable to listen to in any location.

The space was also purposefully built with future opportunities in mind that could easily transform from restaurant to event space, depending on the needs of the customer. These needs would range from the ability to achieve clear, beautiful sound for day-to-day operations, or more powerful bass for private events.

With a very broad vision, and a desire for high-quality audio to elevate the distinct spaces throughout the property, the team at Fish & Fire Food Group reached out to Hill Residential dealer, One Source Systems, for their unique, creative, and technical capabilities and for their ability to bring world-class technology into the space to bring their vision to life.

METHODOLOGY

Professional audio integration is more than merely filling a space with sound. It’s a tangible design element and a critical part of the space’s environment that is meant to create a mood and elevate the senses without distracting from the designer’s vision and aesthetic goals. For over 30 years, the architectural speaker pioneers at Sonance have continually explored and refined the fine art of musical fidelity within a designed space, with their series of award-winning speakers.

“I know the team at the Fish & Fire Food Group understands how audio enhances the experience more than most restaurateurs, so we wanted to make sure that whatever we installed was something that would complement the space and totally enhance the customer experience. When we have a client like the team at Fish & Fire Food Group that has demanding requirements for sound and aesthetics, it’s a no brainer for us to go with Sonance. Sonance has the best 70V speakers that I have ever heard.”

– Randy Baker, Co-Founder

One Source Systems

BEYOND EXPECTATION

“We did not want hold back on any of the bells and whistles because we know what a profound impact they can have on a space, which is why we required a state-of-the-art audio system. One Source Systems knew that to meet my expectations, we needed a well-balanced, clear, and easy-to-use audio system in our very complicated and diverse environment that had lots of challenging zones. I told One Source Systems to only use the best of the best because I did not want any subpar equipment in our restaurant and that is why together we picked Sonance and James Loudspeaker audio solutions. Sonance and James Loudspeaker provided a technically sophisticated system to achieve the right sounds in different areas and I have a feeling that those details will help increase business. People may not realize it, but oftentimes the memory of an occasion is tied not only to the food you ate, but the song you listened to or what was playing during that moment. Those little details paired with the waterfront views makes this an occasion-based destination and is what keeps people coming back.” – Gregory Casten, Founder The Point D.C.

RESULTS

The team at One Source Systems wanted to ensure that they integrated consistent, even balanced audio throughout the entire restaurant that was not only comfortable to listen to, but also easy to manage. They turned to Sonance for their highly acclaimed audio solutions.

In the main dining room, Sonance 8” Pendant Speakers were used not only for their best-in-class fidelity and uncompromised sonic performance in 70V/100V, but also for their minimalist design to blend discretely into the environment.

In the private dining room, two pairs of James Loudspeaker Small Aperture® Series speakers were installed and paired with a James Loudspeaker PowerPipe Subwoofer to fill the space with rich, detailed bass frequencies without interfering with the décor and to ensure that top notch technology would enhance this room for private events.

Throughout the waterfront outdoor patio area, over 25 Sonance Mariner 86 Speakers were utilized to not only attract clientele passing by on the surrounding marina, but for their reliability in withstanding the outdoor elements.

The placement of speakers throughout the property provides a consistent and comfortable listening experience to not only set the ambiance, but to also help make each visit nothing short of magical.

APPLE MILL

APPLE MILL

ABOUT ARTIFEX

The Apple Mill project is a mixed-use commercial building in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada: an up and coming, “transit-oriented, green, and people-focused downtown.” The building at 100 New Park Pl can be accessed from Apple Mill Rd or New Park Pl and hosts a bank, a financial services tax and auditing company, a Harley-Davidson office, and a parking structure. It also features common spaces, including a shared outdoor space located on the main level for business colleagues to use at their leisure.

THE CHALLENGE

This property is operated by SmartCentres, a commercial developer and operator based in Vaughan, ON. The company has over 283 shopping centers, with a majority of those featuring their largest client, Walmart. SmartCentres is now developing increasingly popular mixed-use buildings, like the one at Apple Mill Rd. Deploying an outdoor audio solution for the shared outdoor space was the focus for this project. The combination of extreme weather, traffic noise, and ongoing construction created a need for high performance, high quality outdoor audio from durable speakers.

We had researched many different products and in speaking with Ed Lockyer from SC Media, Ed suggested looking into James Loudspeaker. After researching, we made it our mission to go with their custom Wedge speakers.” – John Wiszniewski, ESA Communications, Ltd.

REQUIREMENTS

The goal for this outdoor venue was to create a space where people wanted to gather. The harsh environment during the winter months meant finding an audio solution that could withstand the elements. In addition, the system needed to provide even, balanced coverage throughout large spaces and play at a comfortable volume to encourage conversation and relaxation.

METHODOLOGY

ESA Communications Ltd., a leading commercial integrator covering the Province of Ontario, Canada and the Caribbean Region, was able to bring an innovative solution to the table for this project. The task was to take a lifeless outdoor space in a busy business complex and bring it to life. People needed a reason to use the space as it was intended, to relax, have conversation, and enjoy the sunshine when weather permitted. By using James Loudspeaker audio solutions customized to blend into the architecture, the area was soon transformed by the addition of music playing comfortably in the background, promoting conversation and overall enjoyment of the public space.

RESULT

James Loudspeaker’s talented team of craftsmen and engineers was able to design custom speakers perfectly suited to meet the needs of this commercial project. What was once an under-utilized outdoor area was brought to life with comfortable audio that made it welcoming and functional. The positioning and placement of the speakers allowed for this magical experience with the audio seeming to emanate from all around.

SOUTH SHORES CHURCH

SOUTH SHORES CHURCH

ABOUT SOUTH SHORES CHURCH

Located just half of a mile from the famous Pacific Coast Highway in Dana Point, California, South Shores Church has been serving Southern California coastal communities for over 60 years. With panoramic views of the ocean, Saddleback Mountain, and surrounding city lights, and a campus built on six acres of land, South Shores Church is the home to a 584-seat sanctuary, with additional rooms dedicated to adult and children’s ministry meeting spaces, additional fellowship rooms, staff offices, and an outdoor deck overlooking the ocean.

THE CHALLENGE

With a growing church congregation, and spaces that were built as early as 1960, the team at South Shores Church knew that they needed to renovate and expand their property to not only welcome more people to their campus, but to also modernize the experience to create a connection with people from the moment they stepped out of their car. Musical worship was also an increasing priority for the church which contributed to their desire to enhance acoustics throughout the entire property as part of the renovation. With no audio in the outdoor spaces of the church, and a need to improve audio quality for band-style worship inside of the main sanctuary, the team at South Shores Church needed to find an audio solution with common voicing in multiple form factors for the indoor and outdoor spaces. As the team dreamt up their ultimate audio solution for the newly renovated campus, the Coronavirus pandemic quickly impacted the vision and emphasis on enhancing their outdoor space. With less people spending time inside of the main sanctuary due to new regulations, investing in evenly distributed outdoor audio would allow people to worship and enjoy the live music experience from anywhere on the grounds. With a very broad vision, and a desire for high-quality audio to elevate their campus, the team at South Shores Church turned to Sonance to bring their vision to life.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Find an audio solution with common voicing to connect with people from the moment they get out of their cars, to entering the foyer and main sanctuary
  • Best-in-class fidelity and uncompromised sonic performance in 70V/100V applications
  • Weatherproof outdoor-rated audio solution that can withstand the elements

METHODOLOGY

Professional audio integration is more than merely filling a space with sound. It’s a tangible design element and a critical part of the space’s environment that is meant to create a mood and elevate the senses without distracting from the designer’s vision and aesthetic goals. For over 30 years, the architectural speaker pioneers at Sonance have continually explored and refined the fine art of musical fidelity within a designed space, with their series of award-winning in-wall and in-ceiling speakers.

RESULT

From the parking lot, to the planters lining the entrance of the property and the rafters supporting the roof, the South Shores Church outdoor installation consists of a combination of 4.5” and 6.5” Landscape Series Satellite speakers, 12” and 15” Landscape Series Subwoofers, two omnidirectional 70V/100V OMNI-6T speakers, and a variety of Surface Mount Woofers. The weatherproof construction of the products safeguards the speakers against moisture and other outdoor elements. Sonance’s broad offering of outdoor products and form factors also allowed the South Shores team to fill varying landscapes with full range sound while retaining common voicing space to space.

In the main foyer, Sonance Professional Series In-Ceiling speakers were installed to ensure a consistent continuum of sound was had from the outdoor spaces to indoors. To control the audio, IPORT LUXE was installed in the control booth to run the dLive MixPad mixing tool software that pairs with the Allen & Heath mixing system. The ability to use an iPad as a mobile mixing unit has enabled the audio staff to keep tabs on audio performance across all zones, inside and outside, during live services. And to ensure all systems run smoothly and clearly, the SonAmp DSP 2-750 was installed to optimize performance across all speakers. The placement of speakers throughout the property provides an impactful and consistent experience to ensure people can enjoy worship services from anywhere on the property, which is particularly important today, as congregation members can social distance outdoors while enjoying the sermon and the surrounding ocean views.

PRODUCT HIGHLIGHT

The Sonance OMNI-6T is an omnidirectional 70V/100V/8 Ohm loudspeaker, designed to deliver 360-degree coverage in applications such as houses of worship, resort gardens, hotel pool areas, theme parks and outdoor shopping malls. ARTIFEX BREWING

ARTIFEX BREWING

ABOUT ARTIFEX

Nestled in the hills of San Clemente in Southern California is Artifex Brewing; a microbrewery that has become a popular hangout for locals and tourists alike. With plenty of competition in the way of bars and other breweries, the owners knew they had to do something beyond their multi-award-winning beers to stand out from the crowd. Artifex Brewing features a tap room and bar area with seating for 40, as well as a beer garden with seating for 30. Additionally, the brewery can be used for private functions. They also have food trucks several nights a week which create a “standing-room-only” capacity crowd.

THE CHALLENGE

To deliver high quality sound at high volume levels throughout all areas, while dealing with challenging acoustics (concrete floor, stainless steel tanks) and allowing clearance so as not to obstruct the brewing equipment. Low Volt Automation Technologies (LVAT) in Oceanside, California were awarded the project; and they turned to Sonance for their Professional Series range of Commercial Loudspeakers and DSP Amplifiers.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Full fidelity sound at very high SPL – Consistent volume levels throughout the entire premises
  • Seamless integration of sound between indoor and outdoor
  • Aesthetic that would blend in with the open-ceiling plan and pendant lighting

BEYOND EXPECTATIONS

Commercial integrators often accept the fact that 70 volt audio systems deliver average sound quality. Sonance Professional Series is not only aesthetically pleasing; the sound quality is on par with high-end 8 Ohm systems. We were so impressed with the outcome at Artifex, we have used the Sonance Professional Series on several projects since.”
