🎶 Audio Spaces: bar, dining area, stunning patio, and restrooms (16 zones)

🦈 Product Used: CONNECTSERIES  Mixture of  (8) 354N & 704N

THE VENUE

Embodying earthly elements throughout its signature cocktails and Latin-American-inspired menu, DIOSA’s guests are immediately transported from the restaurant in Downey, California, to the heart of Mexico. To create a fully immersive audio environment across the restaurant’s sixteen zones, including a massive bar, main dining area, stunning patio, and gorgeous restrooms, the Pearl West Restaurant Group leadership recognized the importance of deploying technology to ensure vibrancy and cross-functionality.

THE INSTALL

To set the ambiance for each zone, DIOSA needed amplifiers that would supply reliable and sustainable connections. The Pearl West Restaurant Group contacted manufacturer’s reps Geer Tech to provide an audio system compatible with its high-energy needs that would provide flexibility throughout the venue. After a tour of the Geer Tech Experience Center in Huntington Beach, Pearl West decided that LEA Professional’s technology would be an exemplary fit for DIOSA’s audio needs. After being connected with local integrator Gridworks, the final pieces were put into place for DIOSA’s grand opening.

Account Manager at Geer Tech, Kenny Miller, was responsible for the installation. “The Pearl West Restaurant Group was looking for a system that would produce granularity and control,”  Miller explained. “LEA Professional’s technology was the ideal solution, as it had both remote controllability and the capacity to adjust different sound settings. Everything this project required was built into this one LEA Professional package.”

Gridworks deployed the LEA Connect Series 354 and the LEA Connect Series 704. The CS354 is a 4-channel amplifier with 350 watts per channel and powers the ceiling and exterior loudspeakers. The CS354 supports HiZ (70V or 100V) or LoZ selectable by channel, which was perfect for DIOSA since they wanted to use a mix of low-  and high-impedance loudspeakers.

The Pearl West Restaurant Group wanted the ability to monitor and control the restaurant’s amplifiers remotely, so the security and functionality of the remote connection were essential. SharkWare, LEA Professional’s advanced amplifier control software, was installed to facilitate remote connectivity  and onsite commissioning. SharkWare works to monitor the status of connected amplifiers and allows users to adjust several system settings from anywhere. In addition to SharkWare, DIOSA is also utilizing the magic of the LEA Cloud to control their amplifiers and solve connectivity issues.

The CCCB is a state-of-the-art instructional facility that houses over 1,400 classroom seats and is designed to support large innovative and interactive classes. The building includes multiple flat-floored, team-based-learning classrooms with 132, 150, and 162 seats, a unique 190-seat ‘classroom in the round’ and over 350 informal seats throughout the building for students to study and collaborate with each other.

THE INSTALL

LEA AMPS INSTALLED AT UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN

When the AV Engineering team at the College of LSA realized that flexibility was key when deciding which route to go with their audio system they looked back to a familiar project where the University had used industry-leading, high-quality, cloud- and IoT-based pro-audio amplifiers from LEA Professional. After seeing the performance and dynamism of the amplifiers in the relatively new School of Kinesiology Building they knew LEA would be a good fit.

Jeremy Gerick and Christopher Elly, Senior AV Project Engineers on the project, installed 20 LEA Professional Dante Connect Series amplifiers for maximum coverage, a mixture of 354D, 704D, 84D, and 702D. Designing an audio system based on Dante-connected devices offers many benefits, including nearly limitless system flexibility and scalability, allowing a small AV team to operate as a much larger one, as well as the ability to decentralize system processing, set various zones and presets, and easily reconfigure the system as necessary.

“This project was quite expansive so we chose to install only Dante enabled components, including the Dante version of the Connect Series,” said Gerick. “This gave us the utmost flexibility, ensuring all elements of the system could ‘talk’ to each other, avoiding any connectivity issues.”

When it came to the installation of the amplifiers, the LEA Professional Web UI proved extremely useful to the team both as a time saver and a cost saver. The Web UI is LEA Professional’s browser-based interface which allows local monitoring of every amplifier connected to the network from any phone, tablet, or PC. In addition, it allows users to view the status of every channel on any given amp. This allowed Gerick to constantly monitor the system during install so if there was an issue it could be immediately flagged and dealt with.

With safety protocols being front of mind, the build-out of any large audio system at the university needs to incorporate a fire alarm cut-off system. This ensures that when the fire alarm is sounded, the amps power down so announcements can be heard. In this case, a fire inspector needed to evaluate that function on the amps before the rest of the system was installed. To do this the team utilized the Web UI, getting the amplifier toning and then connecting it to the relay control power supply to showcase the fire alarm cut-off capability. This function saved the fire inspector an additional trip to the university after the system was built and saved the team significant time during the installation process.

Outside of the Web UI, the amplifiers, which are used to drive the PA system, as well as the main speakers for lecture content etc., had many features that Gerick and team were very impressed with.

“The amps themselves have a good user interface, the ability to switch between 70 volt and LowZ is extremely valuable to us, as well as the ability to do impedance measurements on the speaker loads,” explained Gerick.

CS702

THE CONCLUSION

LEA AMPS INSTALLED AT UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN

The team praised the customer service they received from the amplification technology company and plans to install the Connect Series in the University’s Modern Languages Building Lecture Room 2, which is being designed as a small cinema experience featuring 5.1 surround sound and a 4K DCI projector from Sony.

“The customer support is truly excellent at LEA, anytime I had a question I knew I could contact them and get an answer almost immediately,” explained Gerick. “We have had great feedback on the system so far and having LEA play well with all our other components has made my job that bit easier.”

We would like to thank everyone on the AV Engineering team at the University of Michigan’s College of Literature, Science, and the Arts for choosing our amps on this killer install and we hope to provide quality sound for many years to come.

LEA AMPS REVITALIZE AUSTRALIA’S SYDNEY SHOWGROUND

Australia’s Sydney Showground was established in 1998 as a purpose-built home for major events as part of the multi-million dollar development leading up to the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Today it’s a world-class venue, hosting nearly 150 national and international events annually, including music festivals, sporting events, exhibitions, trade shows and the Sydney Royal Easter Show, its flagship event and the nation’s largest annual ticketed event. Sydney Showground comprises several buildings, including Giants Stadium, the Dome and Exhibition Complex, Charles Moses Stadium, Howie Complex, the Sydney Royal Stables, and more.

THE INSTALL

LEA AMPS REVITALIZE AUSTRALIA’S SYDNEY SHOWGROUND

Showground staff contacted leading Australian integrator The P.A. People to help overhaul the system. Ross Ford, Project Manager at The P.A. People, was tasked with leading the installation. “From an operational point of view, LEA amplifiers offered us several key features that made them easy to integrate. The ability to bridge channels, ingest Dante inputs, and utilize analog inputs for the fire trip lines, plus they’re a lot smaller and more compact than many competitive offerings.”

Every pavilion has a standalone public address system, with a site-wide system in place for emergency communications. A major element of the AV upgrades was the desire for complete system monitoring and supervision. Because the AV in some of the smaller venues is used infrequently, unbeknownst to the staff, when required the AV systems often performed sub-optimally, an issue only identified immediately prior to an event during testing. LEA’s line-monitoring capabilities were a significant factor in their selection. Now, AV staff receive an email notifying them of device issues or signal path disruptions in real-time, allowing staff to make fixes in many cases before anyone notices a problem.

A mixture of nine LEA Connect Series 354D amplifiers and nine LEA Connect Series 704D amplifiers were deployed in the smaller venues. The CS354D is a Dante-enabled 4-channel amplifier with 350 watts per channel, while the CS704D is a Dante-enabled 4-channel amplifier with 700 watts per channel. Both are perfectly suited for small to medium-scale installations and support high-Z (70V or 100V) and low-Z selectable by channel, giving the Showground excess capabilities for additional loudspeakers in the future.

For the Dome and Exhibition Complex, The P.A. People installed 13 LEA Connect Series 1504D. The CS1504D is LEA Professional’s flagship high-power IoT-enabled amplifier. A 2RU 4-channel amplifier offering 1500 watts per channel, it’s ideal for large concert venues, arenas and stadiums. The CS1504D is Dante-enabled and supports high-Z (70V or 100V) and low-Z selectable by channel, providing capabilities for possible expansion.

A significant challenge for the installation team was that many venues were in constant use, so finding time to perform the upgrades and swap out the gear had to be very carefully planned. Thankfully, LEA’s Sharkware software made device configuration simple, saving the team significant commissioning time.

“Because of the quality of LEA’s amplifiers and the ease of being able to implement them in the infrastructure, we were able to swap out 15 amplifiers in a few days,” says Ford. “That time included tuning and setting up all the system parameters and making them operational.”

THE CONCLUSION

LEA AMPS REVITALIZE AUSTRALIA’S SYDNEY SHOWGROUND

Sydney Showground staff were pleased with how smoothly the changeovers went. The Royal Easter Show was just around the corner, so there was no room for error — the AV systems had to work flawlessly.

“Sydney Showground is a longstanding client of ours and great to work with,” said Ford. “They are very respectful of our professional capability in making recommendations to them based on product performance. The proof is that all the AV systems worked as intended and, more importantly, RAS received no user complaints during this year’s Royal Easter Show. It’s a good working relationship; having the right products like LEA’s amplifiers is the key.”

We would like to thank everyone at Sydney Showgrounds and The P.A. People for choosing our amps for this killer install and we hope to provide quality sound for many years to come.

THE INSTALL

LEA AMPS ENHANCE AUDIO IN BOURBON COUNTRY | MAKER’S MARK

The Maker’s Mark staff wanted to ensure their facilities reflect the world-class quality of the bourbon they produce. When retrofitting an employee break room next to the bottling lines, they contacted Alex Peake, Project Manager for JCA Media, to help equip the room’s AV system. “Their goal was to have background music playing all the time, except during meetings and presentations,” said Peake. “They wanted to be able to walk in, plug in their laptop, hit the presentation preset on the touchscreen, and go. Then hit a different preset at the end of the meeting to reset the room. And that’s exactly what we did.” The background music system switches itself on before the day shift begins and shuts off late in the evening. Eight Martin ceiling loudspeakers were installed in the 30-foot by 60-foot break room, all driven by an LEA Connect Series 704. The 704 is a 4-channel amplifier with 700 watts per channel, perfectly suited for small to medium-scale installations.

With the success of the break room deployment, the distillery staff immediately pivoted to how they could improve the AV for both of the industrial bottling lines directly outside the break room. They wanted to break up the monotony of the repetitive machine sounds and make it more enjoyable for the employees who staff the area. They took advantage of the spare power that the 704 amplifier provided, powering each bottling line and the break room on separate channels, all of which is controlled by an Allen & Heath AHM-32 audio matrix processor.

The positive effect of the improved audio was contagious, resulting in the distillery staff asking JCA Media again to update an AV system, this time in the “innovation lab.” The innovation lab is a separate log cabin-esque building with red shutters the same color as the iconic red wax on their bottles. More than just a secretive area where the next generation of Maker’s Mark products are ideated and refined, the building also includes a VIP tasting area, patio, conference room and more.

The original design called for a 4-channel LEA amplifier paired with another AHM-32. One amplifier channel would drive the tasting room while another fed the patio. The final two channels were used for the conference room: one for the ceiling loudspeakers and the other powered a subwoofer. Peake added, “We were installing that and getting all up and running and they loved it so much, they said, “Okay, add audio to both the offices, the bathroom, and the kitchen. We just want background music everywhere.”

THE CONCLUSION

LEA AMPS ENHANCE AUDIO IN BOURBON COUNTRY | MAKER’S MARK

The JCA team swapped out the 4-channel amplifier for the aptly-named Connect Series 168 to support the new system requirements. Offering eight analog inputs, external I/O control for remote on/off and fault monitoring, and eight outputs at 160 watts per channel, the CS168 was more than capable of powering all aspects of the innovation lab.

The staff at Maker’s Mark was delighted with the installation and have plans for renovating other AV systems and new construction to meet the ever-increasing demands of their customers. What better way to spend a summer afternoon than sipping premium bourbon while listening to crystal-clear music in the beautiful rolling hills of Kentucky?

We would like to thank everyone at Maker’s Mark Distillery and JCA Media for choosing our amps for this killer install and we hope to provide quality sound for many years to come. 🦈

A NEW AUDIO INSTALLATION COLORS THE SOUND OF THE CELEBRATIONS IN THE CHURCH OF CASTEL GOFFREDO

There are architectural structures that present particularly demanding challenges to those involved in installing and optimizing sound systems.

This complexity is certainly found in churches and other places of worship. The team has to avoid difficult acoustic reverberations, preventing the incorrect propagation of sounds while ensuring maximum intelligibility of music and speech and still respecting precise architectural constraints, especially when it comes to historic buildings of value.

A challenge recently completed by the Piacenza IT and system integration company Inside Srl for the Church of Sant’Erasmo in Castel Goffredo, in the province of Mantua.

The parish priest of the Church, Don Giuseppe Bergamaschi, tells us:

“The idea of changing the audio system of our church was much needed for many years by all users, from the faithful to readers, from singers to instrumentalists, as well as priests. Hence we decided to entrust the renovation of the acoustic system of our church to the company Inside of Piacenza. And we are very happy because right from the start, when the rehearsals and studies were done, we went to see other systems, we realized the remarkable improvement on the performative solution we had chosen.”

From listening test to acoustic simulation

The initial need was to completely replace a dated and no longer performing audio system with a system capable of guaranteeing clear and intelligible speech, even in a very reverberant environment such as that of the Church of Sant’Erasmo.

The client – the Parish of Castel Goffredo – request to have a sound system capable of enhancing the choir, which not only animates the celebrations, but also performs in concerts inside the Church, which also hosts musical performances by other groups.

The solution proposed to the customer by the Technical Manager of Inside Cristian Sartori and his colleague Gianluca Pighi was the O-Line by Martin Audio, a micro-line array for installation in the white version made up of 2-way loudspeakers.

Manage the system remotely with LEA Professional

To manage the 8 micro line arrays installed, Inside relied on LEA Professional installation amplifiers. After discussions with the Audiosales Product Specialists, Gianluca Pighi, the team identified the appropriate solutions for the project in the 8-channel CONNECT 168D and 4-channel CONNECT 164D models, both equipped with analog and Dante inputs. The US company based in Indiana began designing amplifiers in 2019, focusing everything on performance, reliability and connectivity. It was this last aspect in particular that immediately captured the attention of the installers who chose them.

Gianluca Pighi explains it better:

“The truly innovative feature of the Connect amplifiers, of absolute convenience, is the possibility of making all the adjustments and modifications of the parameters remotely at any time. You can imagine the savings in time and money that it brings to be able to manage the amplifiers directly from the web app installed on our devices and intervene immediately if problems arise or if those on the installation site ask to change some settings”.

This is possible because all LEA products connect via Ethernet or WiFi and each one is a WiFi hot spot. LEA provides a Cloud where installers can analyze data to monitor health status and speaker settings can be saved in libraries. Ultimately, LEA Professional amplification platforms are the first true IoT devices for the professional audio installation market.

The challenge of live streaming

The Inside project for the Church of Sant’Erasmo was not limited to sound in the strict sense.

The client also requested that Masses and celebrations be broadcast live via the Castel Goffredo radio station, Radio Alfa. Many people, explains Don Giuseppe Bergamaschi, “follow Holy Mass both on weekdays and on Sundays via radio streaming. We have the church connected directly to our Alfa radio and the audio is excellent as is the video.”

Connecting the audio inside the Church with the radio was possible thanks to the Dante AVIO adapter with an analog output (ADP-DAO-AU-0X1): a need that was fully satisfied and streaming guaranteed using just one more device.

All the sound of the Church passes through the Dante network: in addition to the first one, another Audinate adapter with 2 analog outputs (ADP-DAO-AU-0X2) was used to be able to connect the parts to a small monitor serving the musician, useful during celebrations and concerts.

Tackling complex situations with the right solutions as they are reliable, functional and simple: this is what a reality like Inside srl has always done with projects for its customers and it is the same vocation of Audiosales, not only a distributor but also a consultant for its partner.

LEA AMPLIFIERS FOR POPULAR DINING | KFC MEXICO

KFC synonymous with Colonel Sanders, and its “finger‐lickin good” chicken has been a culinary delight for millions of families around the world for over 130 years. In Mexico, KFC has the distinction of being ranked by YUM Brands as its #1 franchisee in the world for its high standards, store design, and overall value to the consumer.

“Our business vision is about offering a nice environment for friends and families to enjoy a dine‐in experience,” says Alfonso Ramirez, director of Premium Restaurant Brands, which is responsible for KFC and its franchisees throughout the country. “While drive‐thru, delivery, and carry‐out are very important channels for our business, the idea of families sharing, being together and eating together in our restaurants is part of the enjoyment we want our brand and stores to foster.”

THE INSTALL

LEA AMPLIFIERS FOR POPULAR DINING | KFC MEXICO

To maintain this high standard, KFC wanted the same audio content and ambience across all of its locations and wanted the ability to control it from one place. In a country of 126 million people covering 760,000 miles, the logistics behind a project of this magnitude are daunting. Agüero and his team first needed to assess the current state of the audio systems across the various locations, and then develop a scalable solution to accommodate KFC’s plans for growth.

Signo started the process by partnering with Intéligos, a leading audio, video, and security sales company headquartered in Monterrey, Mexico. With such a large country to cover and the looming requirement for single‐source monitoring and control, Intelligos introduced Agüero and the Signo team to LEA Professional. “LEA’s products are high quality, and its technology is simple to understand and gives KFC the ability to control, monitor, and troubleshoot all locations from a single place through the Cloud. These were all key selling points for me. Intéligos handles the product, the logistics, shipping, and warehousing, and has helped ensure everything runs smoothly,” adds Agüero.

Agüero’s Signo team started with 70 stores in Phase One of the project. “We felt we had a great opportunity to make things better.” When Signo started the process 18 months ago, all of the stores played different music, at different sound levels, and in some cases, not at all. “We told the store managers to focus on their attention on serving customers. We are the experts in sound and music, and you are the experts in chicken. Together, we make a good alliance,” quips Agüero.

Intéligos recommended the LEA Connect Series 354 amplifier for each location. The LEA Connect Series 354 is a 4‐channel amplifier with 350 watts per channel, providing each KFC location with enough power to support audio content delivery. The amplifier is easy to install either through the built‐in Wi‐Fi access point, connecting with the location’s Wi‐Fi, or with an ethernet connection. “We hesitated sending a lot of product into each store,” says Agüero. “We wanted to keep it simple by assigning a standard package of one LEA CS354 amplifier and a set of Sonos speakers for each location – easy to inventory, ship, and keep track of.”

The biggest advantage for Signo now is the ability to remotely troubleshoot and fix any issue with any store from the Mexico City office. “We can also easily modify music content across locations as well as schedule amplifier on/off times to coincide with store operating hours, which can help save energy and extend the life of the products,” delights Agüero.

CS354

THE CONCLUSION

LEA AMPLIFIERS FOR POPULAR DINING | KFC MEXICO

As KFC continues implementing the LEA solution, the Cloud component will become even more critical
as the company expands its footprint throughout the country.

“This is a robust amplifier. We don’t want to have to send a technician to the desert in Sonora or some
other remote location every time a problem occurs. That would be a big cost for us and KFC,” laments
Agüero. Being able to remotely troubleshoot and fix any issue with any store from one location was the ideal scenario for KFC and Agüero’s team. “Thankfully we haven’t had one problem. The LEA solution isvery robust and reliable.”

With Phase One completed, the Signo team has developed an ideal blueprint for the balance of the project. And, above all, KFC Mexico has greater control in providing families across the country with a uniform, consistent in‐store experience – a key element to the total brand experience the company aims to achieve.

We would like to thank everyone at KFC Mexico  and Intéligos for choosing our amps for this killer install and we hope to provide quality sound for many years to come. 🦈
