CASA DE CAMPO LUXURY VILLA POWERED BY LEA AMPS

Casa De Campo Resort and Villas in La Romana is known for attracting a high-profile celebrity clientele. With its gated community, panoramic ocean views, and wide-ranging amenities, the resort provides both the security and luxury these guests require. Casa De Campo, which opened almost 50 years ago, was the first resort of this type in the Dominican Republic.

THE INTEGRATOR

CASA DE CAMPO LUXURY VILLA POWERED BY LEA AMPS

Systems integrator Musitempo was called upon by an owner of one of the resort’s largest villas, seeking a new, powerful, dynamic audio system for their entire home. The villa owners, who were long-time customers of Musitempo, demanded not only high-quality performance from a system, but also a system that would not interfere with their aesthetics.

With over 25 years of experience, Musitempo is a leading AV provider in the Dominican Republic. The company represents a range of prominent equipment brands as well as classical and popular musical instruments. Musitempo specializes in the design, installation, programming and automation of commercial and home audio and lighting systems.

THE INSTALL

CASA DE CAMPO LUXURY VILLA POWERED BY LEA AMPS

For this project, Musitempo knew immediately that LEA amplifiers would meet all the requirements. The company had worked with many LEA Professional executives over the years, so when LEA was established, the switch to the new amplifier technology company was a no-brainer.

“After over 15 years as an active AV integrator, designer and system tuner, LEA Definitely has become my go-to amplifier brand,” said Fernando Hernandez Voigt, CTO at Musitempo.

“It provides me with everything I need from the power it delivers, the ease of programming, and the convenience of remote-monitoring with the Cloud platform, is it now my first choice when it comes to most of my installs.“

One of the main challenges of this installation was that the client wanted to use a particular brand and model of loudspeaker which do not offer built-in transformers. Musitempo had to search for suitable external transformers for the villa project, but the connectivity flexibility of the LEA amps simplified the project.

“Since this is such a large installation, we had to mix between Hi-Z and Low-Z cable runs, but with LEA’s Connect Series this was literally a piece of cake,” commented Voigt.

Ultimately the team at Musitempo chose four LEA Connect Series Amplifiers, two Connect 168 and two Connect 704 which power 80 Bowers and Wilkins speakers.

The LEA Professional Connect Series is powering all areas of the villa including the lobby areas, kitchen, pantry, dining room, indoor garden, living room, pool, BBQ area, fire pit, gazebo area and 8 bedrooms.

While this large install was underway, the team had to contend with the ever-present threat of COVID lockdowns in the region. To combat this, the Musitempo team was grateful for the LEA Professional Cloud Platform ensuring they could still access the system without being on site.

“The LEA Cloud Platform allows us to make tunings and adjustments without the need of being physically at the venue,” commented Voigt. “This really helps us provide a level of service that would have been impossible if it wasn’t for LEA.”

THE CONCLUSION

CASA DE CAMPO LUXURY VILLA POWERED BY LEA AMPS

For an installation that needed to be worthy of its luxury environment, Voigt emphasized that all expectations were not only met but exceeded.

“The whole family was completely satisfied with what we were able to deliver. I look forward to continuing to use LEA for all my future installations,” added Voigt. LEA has definitely earned its place as my go-to amp provider.”

We’d like to thank Fernando and his team at Musitempo for choosing our amps for this killer installation and we hope that the audio systems will continue to deliver reliable audio for everyone staying at the villa for years to come.

THE VENUE

CANADIAN UNIVERSITY POWERED BY LEA PROFESSIONAL AMPLIFIERS

SFU is recognized around the world for academic excellence, innovation, and sustainability. They are consistently ranked among the top research universities in Canada and as one of the top 250 universities in the world. And with more than 170,000 alumni spanning the country and globe, SFU’s impact in every facet of life is far-reaching.

THE INSTALL

CANADIAN UNIVERSITY POWERED BY LEA PROFESSIONAL AMPLIFIERS

For this installation, the learning experience of SFU’s students was the school’s top priority. When some of the previous amplifiers powering classrooms began to fail, Adrian Bisek, AV System Designer at SFU Surrey campus reached out to SC Media, LEA Professional’s Canadian representative, to secure the right technology to support the university for the next decade. In his role, Bisek is responsible for the design and implementation of audiovisual systems for the school. His department supports all classroom learning, collaboration, interaction at distance, and communication to large audiences, as well as supporting university administrative and research objectives

After meeting with SC Media, SFU opted for a set of a dozen Connect Series 84D amplifiers from LEA Professional to provide the power ratings, frequency response, and connectivity options they needed at a price point that fit the university’s budget. The amplifiers are currently being used to power the university’s standard sized classrooms.

Bisek did not hesitate in using the brand for the first time, mainly because he knew of LEA’s heritage and the world class engineers that are behind the product.

“After an introduction to Bradley Drummond from LEA Professional, we were able to have our detailed questions answered about the products we were interested in. We focused on the power capabilities, GUI interface, and networking security. Technical Support were very knowledgeable about how their devices worked and were able to get us all the information we required for our team. Afterward, we felt confident knowing how LEA Professional had come about, their products, and how they supported their customers.” commented Bisek.

“We haven’t implemented Dante on our campus network yet, however as more AV devices are put on the network, we wanted to make sure that we have industry standard equipment with the latest technologies available. Dante helps simplify installations by configuring audio signal on the network, which may help us with future requirements for classroom overflow, or supporting student learning in a hybrid environment – we do what we can to install for today, and be prepared for tomorrow.” commented Bisek.

Bisek, who did the installation himself with his team at the university, said the process went well.

“The challenge is usually setting up the IP configuration on different private networks with most devices, but the LEA amps allow the setup to happen over WiFi which makes it simple to configure with our phones.”

“When we initially installed these devices, we contacted Technical Support with some configuration and PoE questions.” said Bisek. “LEA quickly resolved everything. We were able to easily setup the amps to have two or three channels in 8-ohm and the fourth channel in 70V high impedance. The straightforward browser-based GUI and network monitoring ability out of the box is a bonus.  Overall, the communication and support with LEA Professional was top notch and we were very happy once everything was working perfectly.”

THE CONCLUSION

We’d like to thank Adrian and his team at SFU for choosing our amps for this killer installation and we hope that the audio systems will continue to deliver reliable audio for staff and students for years to come.

DSP In Professional Audio Amplifiers

DSP In Professional Audio Amplifiers:

Using pro audio amplifiers with built-in DSP has become the standard practice for many pro AV system installers. But still, you might ask yourself, “why do a large majority of installers dish out the extra dough for a DSP amp over its analog counterpart.” While fully analog gear does serve a certain purpose and also holds an ere of pride and nostalgia, there are countless benefits to designing and installing systems with DSP-based amplifiers at the core.

WHAT IS DSP?

DSP IN PROFESSIONAL AUDIO AMPLIFIERS

DSP stands for “digital signal processing”. It is the process of directing an audio signal through computer-based processing algorithms in order to alter the characteristics of the signal’s timing, spacial traits, frequency, or phase.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF DSP?

DSP IN PROFESSIONAL AUDIO AMPLIFIERS

Frees up rack space
Before DSP, you had to load your equipment racks with analog gear like delay units, reverb units, crossovers, equalizers, and more. And, much of that gear was large and heavy, taking up multiple rack units per unit. But now, with DSP, you can still take advantage of the power and flexibility of that analog gear, without overcrowding your rack. Now, all of your input routing, room tuning, speaker tuning, and limiting is just built into the amplifier! And if you use an amp such as our CONNECTSERIES, it’s all built into a one rack unit amplifier. Equipment racks everywhere are smaller, lighter, and cleaner thanks to DSP!

Requires Less Cables
To piggyback on the previous benefit – less gear = less cabling. We’ve all seen or heard about the installer horror stories. You show up to troubleshoot a client’s system, walk into the rack room, turn on the lights, and find yourself tangled in a nest of network cables. Some people might reach their zen mode spending hours tracing and untangling cables, but for most of us, it’s a headache. Thanks to the addition of DSP in professional audio amplifiers, not only do you eliminate extra gear (and therefore, extra cables), but DSP also opens the door to digital signal routing. You don’t need to use physical cables to design your signal chain anymore. Using a digital input router, you can route any input to any output – and with Dante, it’s just an ethernet cable.

Simplifies System Design
Based on the last two benefits, this one can probably be implied. However, it’s important to note that less gear, means less to physically plan, purchase, carry, unbox, install, wire, and test. PLUS – less gear and cable also add the benefit of potentially less electronic failures and troubleshooting.

For many installers, there is also something to be said for digitally mapping signal flow. It’s easier to visualize, test, and make changes.

TYPES OF DSP

DSP IN PROFESSIONAL AUDIO AMPLIFIERS

Delay – Digital delay is one function of DSP that is commonly used during system installations. Installers use delay to correct the timing issues of audio between zones of speakers that span across a distance. When speakers are installed too far apart from one another, the audio signal travels back to the listeners ear at different times, resulting in echoing signals. To correct this, installers add different amounts of delay to different speakers and zones in order to ensure the audio signals all meet the listeners ear at the same exact time. This results in a crisp, clear audio signal.

Crossover – Crossover is used to split the source audio signal into multiple frequency bands that are then sent to different types of speakers. The reason for this is that not all speakers are created equally. Some speakers are optimized for lower frequencies such as subwoofers while others are optimized for high frequencies such as tweeters. Once the signal is run through the amplifier’s crossover, it extracts the high frequencies and sends them to the appropriate speakers and it extracts the low frequencies to send to the subs. This results in a clearer and well-defined listening experience with less noise and distortion.

Compressors – Compressors are used to limit the overall dynamic range of an audio signal. This ensures that the signal will never dip below a certain listenable range and also never go beyond a peak range where potential damage could result to the loudspeakers due to sudden level burst. While this can be a helpful tool in some instances, adding compression has a reputation for reducing audio quality and taking “the life” out of the signal.

Signal Routing – Digital signal routing provides a huge convenience to AV installers. It makes it simple to quickly reroute audio signals from any input to any output without having to unplug and physically move cables. Tools such as the input routing matrix provided by our Web UI, provide an easy one click routing option.

Signal Generator – Signal generators are typically used for system testing and tuning. By generating high demand signals such as pink noise, white noise, and sine waves, AV installers can identify problematic frequency ranges withing their installs such as clipping points and distortion or test their systems before the input source is hooked up.

Equalization – Think of equalization as frequency-specific volume knobs. Commonly used for system tuning, it allows you to adjust certain frequency ranges individually to achieve the desired frequency response, producing the tonal balance you desire.

Limiter – Limiters are used much like compressors to limit the peaks of an audio signal in order to prevent clipping or distortion. However, unlike compressors that typically roll off the signal in a gradual manner, limiters are more of a hard stopping point. Limiters are often used in tandem with compressors. The compressor will be the initial signal roll-off and the limiter is set to be the last line of defense against signals that may peak and cause unwanted distortion.

So even though we have only just begun to scratch the surface of the possibilities of DSP in professional audio amplifiers, you can clearly see the added benefits to your overall system installs. That is why every CONNECTSERIES amplifier comes with built-in DSP that is intuitively controlled through our Web UI and CLOUD platform.

THE INSTALL

COMMERCIAL AUDIO SYSTEMS | LEA POWERS 150 SPEAKERS IN NEW ZEALAND COMMUNITY CENTRE

For this new community centre project, Raj Morar, Manager at Audio Connect, worked with local distributor Jansen to source their audio equipment solutions. Jansen representatives recommended the LEA Professional Connect Series amplifiers as the perfect solution to address the challenges this installation presented.

For Morar, a project like this may have been relatively straightforward a few years ago, but now with the ever-present shadow of COVID and the battles of local lockdowns, time was of the essence.

“Being able to access the amplifiers and address all six zones from our phones via Wi-Fi, made the whole process a lot easier and quicker, ensuring we met our deadlines,” commented Morar.

This two-story centre uses five LEA Professional amplifiers in total — a Connect Series 168D, three Connect 354, and one Connect 704 — all configured to drive a mix of 150 in-ceiling and surface-mount Martin audio speakers.

As the installation continued during the lockdown in New Zealand, the team was able to use the LEA Professional Cloud platform to program the system off site, so when they were finally allowed to return, they weren’t under the same time pressure.

Another challenge of this project was to ensure that the venue was future-proofed. As the community centre will be used in the future to accommodate up to four to five different events at once, they needed the ability to matrix everything for any possible scenario.

“Giving the user the flexibility to be able to do whatever they wanted to do with the system was challenging,” said Morar. “We needed to ensure it would accommodate all their future needs and give them the channel configuration for any scenario. For this, the LEA technology, including the Smart Power Bridge, was fantastic, very friendly and easy to use.”

THE CONCLUSION

COMMERCIAL AUDIO SYSTEMS | LEA POWERS 150 SPEAKERS IN NEW ZEALAND COMMUNITY CENTRE

While this was Audio Connect’s first experience with LEA Professional it hasn’t been their last. The team now specifies LEA Professional amplifiers on all their projects.

“The connectivity and flexibility of the LEA amplifiers allowed us to make this all work,” added Morar. “And as soon as we turned on the system and heard the sound quality, we and our customers were all blown away. We now routinely use LEA amplifiers on all our installs — LEA has definitely earned their spot as our amplifier manufacturer of choice.”

We’d like to thank Raj and his team at Audio Connect for choosing our amps for this killer installation and we hope that the audio systems will continue to deliver reliable audio for the local community for years to come.

THE INSTALL

RESIDENTIAL AV SYSTEMS | LEA POWERS 20-ZONE HOUSTON HOME

A longtime customer of Texas-based AV integration company Sound Lab Designs, the homeowners were looking for an entirely new AV system across their six-bedroom home which is set over five acres of land in the middle of Houston. Sound Lab Designs designed and installed a new system from scratch to cover the interior and exterior of the large property.

For Ernie Blumenthal, owner at Sound Lab Designs, this project was different from other residential installations he’s worked on because, for the first time, he used LEA Professional amplifiers. Blumenthal mapped over 20 audio zones in the property, many of which were external zones including the pool, patio, front and near lawns and balconies. Initially, for Blumenthal it was the style and form factor of the LEA amplifiers that convinced him to give them a try.

“Form factor was a huge plus, I knew I could really stack a lot of power in a home and not take up the whole rack,” commented Blumenthal. “I did my research on LEA and saw that the sound quality and the adjustability of the amplifier was highly regarded so I thought this would be a perfect installation to try this product.”

Sound Lab Designs installed five Connect Series 168, one Connect 702, and one Connect 354 in the home. The team chose to give the homeowners extra power and channel count so they would have plenty of headroom for future expansion.

While supply chain issues due to COVID did create some equipment delays for this project the LEA Professional amplifiers arrived on time with no delays. Having the amplifiers onsite was hugely important for mapping out and configuring the rest of the system design while waiting for the remaining equipment to arrive.

Another selling point of the LEA amplifiers was the connection to the LEA Professional Cloud Platform allowing Sound Lab Designs to monitor all of the amplifiers remotely, simultaneously.

The Cloud Platform provides systems integrators with powerful, reliable and secure remote monitoring and control capabilities across the entire lineup of IoT-enabled LEA Professional Connect Series amplifiers. Unique within the industry, all LEA Professional amplifiers leverage the built-in Amazon Web Services (AWS) IoT Core. The platform allows integrators to monitor critical operational data points that are integral to maintaining system health remotely. The capability delivers greater visibility to provide preventative maintenance, easier troubleshooting and fewer on-site maintenance requirements.

“I really like the monitoring ability, you only need to go to one web page to see all the amplifiers and it means we are able to offer our clients a full end-to-end service,” commented Blumenthal. “The amplifiers provide great value and are reasonably priced for what you are getting so we will definitely be using them again.”

THE CONCLUSION

RESIDENTIAL AV SYSTEMS | LEA POWERS 20-ZONE HOUSTON HOME

Sound Lab Designs has received great feedback from the client and they are happy with how everything sounds and how it looks in their home. There have been no issues with the system so far but if anything does occur Ernie and the team know that with our cloud platform, they can quickly and easily address almost any issue.

We’d like to thank Ernie and his team at Soundlab Designs for choosing our amps for this killer installation and we hope that the audio systems will continue to deliver reliable audio for the homeowners for years to come.

THE INSTALL

HOTEL AV SYSTEMS | LEA INSTALL AT DOMAINE DE MAS DE PIERRE

Inovasystem turned to the team at Pilotefilms, LEA’s Authorized Distributor in France, who recommended the LEA Professional amplifiers. Philippe Pangallo, a Managing Partner at Inovasystem, was the lead engineer for the Domaine de Mas de Pierre project.

The most complicated part of this installation was that the existing network and wiring configuration had a mix of VLANs and Wi-Fi networks, as well as CCTV and hard-wire systems,” said Pangallo. “So, we needed components that were very installation flexible that we could configure as needed. The LEA amplifiers offered the Dante connectivity as well as a range of analog options that we needed.

Pangallo explained that a mix of more than 150 Sonance loudspeakers have been installed throughout the resort, covering a diverse range of spaces, including the gastropub restaurant and bar, a grill restaurant, the hotel lobby, spa and pool areas, fitness centers, guest cabins and more.

For system amplification, the team installed a set of 10 multi-channel, LEA Professional Connect Series amplifiers for a total of 48 audio channels. Several of the amplifiers are Dante ready, with some of the amps driving 100V speaker lines, and others powering low impedance speakers. Flexibility was essential for this installation.

Specific LEA Professional amplifiers in use, for reference:

CS354, CS164, CS352, CS88, CS164D, CS704D, CS354D, CS352D, CS168D, CS88D

In total, Inovasystem designed and installed the resort’s complete AV system, including digital signage, televisions, big screens, and the satellite reception and Chromecast systems.

THE CONCLUSION

HOTEL AV SYSTEMS | LEA INSTALL AT DOMAINE DE MAS DE PIERRE

The customer is delighted with their system, and everything is going well,” added Pangallo. “I’m glad that we specified LEA. The amps are performing as planned, and we are very pleased. We look forward to more LEA installations!.

We’d like to thank Philippe Pangallo and his team at Inoasystem for choosing our amps for this killer installation and we hope that the audio systems will continue to deliver reliable audio to hotel guests for years to come.

Power Amplifier Setup For Small Venues | Using Hi-Z & Low-Z

Power Amplifier Setup For Small Venues: Using Hi-Z & Lo-Z

The CONNECTSERIES amplifiers offer Low-Z, Hi-Z 70V, and Hi-Z 100V operation individually selectable per channel.  This comes in very handy in a wide variety of applications as it allows for the most flexibility in powering speaker systems with fewer amplifier models needed. Let’s take a look at some power amplifier setups using a small sports bar as an example:

All Low-Z

In this diagram all channels are set to Low-Z.  Each channel can have a different amount of speakers and can drive different impedance loads on every channel.  When determining what amp to power the speakers with, it is important to look at the AES or continuous rating of the loudspeaker.  Typically 1.5 to 2 times this power rating will allow for the full output potential of the speaker to be reached with program material but always check with the speaker manufacturer for recommended amplifier power.

All Hi-Z 70V/100V

Here, all channels are set to Hi-Z.  Transformer tap settings are listed below the speaker diagrams with totals from all speakers connected to that channel.  It is good practice to keep 20% headroom with regards to power, to allow for full output potential of the speaker.  With 160W available per channel, maintaining 20% headroom would mean the sum total of all loudspeakers on that channel shouldn’t exceed 128W.

Mixed Low-Z and Hi-Z 70V/100V

This shows the full potential of the amplifier being able to drive each channel as desired with a mix of Low-Z and Hi-Z speakers on the same amplifier.  In addition to this, Channel 2 has subwoofers on it which may require more power than the speakers on the other channels.  Smart Power Bridge is enabled on this channel which doubles the power from 350W to 700W on this channel.  Now a higher power amplifier isn’t required just for the subwoofers, they are properly powered on the same amplifier as the rest of the speakers.

Amplifiers For Restaurants and Bars | AV Solutions From LEA Professional

Amplifiers For Restaurants and Bars | AV Solutions From LEA Professional

The first impression of a restaurant or bar is usually the visual aesthetics. But the second impression, will likely be heard and not seen. That’s why amplifiers for restaurants and bars are critical to creating not only a comfortable guest experience – but also, an intuitive and reliable experience for venue owners, staff, operators, and the AV system integrators who install and service the system.

Smart amplifiers provide the power, flexibility, reliability, dependability, and ease of use that no other professional amplifier product can deliver.

Let’s dive into the details.

FLEXIBLE AUDIO DISTRIBUTION

AMPLIFIERS FOR RESTAURANTS AND BARS | AV SOLUTIONS FROM LEA PROFESSIONAL

From small sports bar setups to larger multi-zoned restaurant systems, amplifiers for restaurants and bars need to have the flexibility to encompass a variety of venue sizes and power requirements.

Smart amps have the configuration flexibility to customize the power output and signal routing to fit virtually any venue.

An important feature that makes that possible is Low-Z, Hi-Z 70V, and Hi-Z 100V operation individually selectable per channel.

This feature gives integrators the ability to design systems that can evenly distribute low-voltage audio throughout different zones such as dining rooms, restrooms, patios, and bars and still reserve enough power to configure zones such as performance stages and dance floors with higher-powered sub requirements.

Here’s an example of how these types of systems could look:

Power Amplifier Setup For Small Venues | Using Hi-Z & Low-Z

The Connect Series amplifiers offer Low-Z, Hi-Z 70V, and Hi-Z 100V operation individually selectable per channel. This comes in very handy in a wide variety of applications as it allows for the most flexibility in powering speaker systems with fewer amplifier models needed.

EASE OF USE

AMPLIFIERS FOR RESTAURANTS AND BARS | AV SOLUTIONS FROM LEA PROFESSIONAL

When integrating AV products into a restaurant or bar environment, ease of use is always a top priority. Management and staff members will need to be able to operate the system intuitively on a daily basis.

This makes smart amps a great candidate for these types of venues.

One of the top benefits of working with smart amps is the ability to play well with other products and systems. That’s why our smart amps offer integrators two Open API protocols. The first utilizes Websockets and the second is TCP-based.

You can learn more about these protocols here.

These protocols have also allowed us to work with the industry’s top system control providers to create custom 3rd party control drivers that are available to integrators for free.

3rd Party Control Plugins & Drivers

Easily install one of our 3rd party drivers to integrate our smart amps into the industry’s top control systems such as Crestron, Extron, Q-Sys, Atlona Velocity, and more.

Possibly the greatest benefit of using smart amplifiers for restaurants and bars is unlocking the power of cloud control.

Our smart amps are designed with Amazon Web Services’ Iot Core built into every unit. This allows integrators to remotely control, configure, and monitor their audio systems from anywhere in the world over one of the most secure and trusted cloud platforms available.

This service is completely free as well and gives integrators the ability to look into client concerns without spending valuable time driving to the actual venue.

Oh – and as an added bonus, integrators can add remote control and monitoring to their existing service contracts. It’s a great way to create more recurring revenue for your business.
