Onehunga High School Case Study

Onehunga High School was established in 1959 on its Pleasant Street site, situated in one of Auckland’s oldest suburbs overlooking the Manukau Harbour. Many families have long histories in the area and have many second or third-generation students. This gives the school a strong sense of tradition and
continuity. In addition, Onehunga High School is committed to providing lifelong learning for the community. As the college looks forward to equipping pupils for life in the 21st century, they require transformative audio, visual and control system updates.

An audio solution for two new state of the art teaching blocks was required. The first, a two basketball court gymnasium with exercise room, locker rooms and teaching spaces. And the second a new technical block catering to the sciences, woodwork, metalwork, art and two commercial-grade kitchens. An atrium space in the technical block also hosts school functions including catered meals where guests can be seated at tables and served directly from the kitchens.

In teaching areas with suspended ceilings, HH Electronics TNi-C4 ceiling speakers were used to provide quality sound while offering a budget-friendly solution. The TNi-C4 is a 4” coaxial speaker with a fully enclosed backcan with ported enclosure extending the low- frequency response over that of a non-backcan version.

To maintain audio continuity, the TNi-W4 surface-mount version of the speaker was used in areas where there was no ceiling and the services exposed. The two-piece mounting bracket ensured quick and simple installation.

ITL Technologies, a company with more than 25 years’ experience in delivering quality data and networked solutions won the AV contract, and this experience would enable Onehunga High School to deliver a top- notch learning environment for students and guests.

All systems GO for HH’s Tensor family

HH Electronics has expanded the Tensor loudspeaker range with the addition of the portable Tensor-GO array system. Integrating a lithium-ion battery for promoting cable-free installation in applications without a dedicated mains supply, a built-in 12V DC charge point promotes charging from a 12V output such as a vehicle battery.

Housed in a polypropylene enclosure, the 8-inch HH subwoofer incorporates a 200W (RMS) Class-D amplifier. Comprising six arrayed 2.75-inch mid/high woofers providing wide horizontal dispersion, the accompanying 562mm x 107mm x 107mm satellite attaches to the base of the 9.9kg subwoofer with a simple Click and Connect design, bypassing the need for external Sub-Sat cabling.

Equipped with four-channel integrated mic/line mixing functionality, mic inputs include two balanced ¼-inch/XLR combos, 3.5mm stereo aux in and a mic/line preset switch together with two RCAs. Four voiced audio modes – music, live, natural, speech – optimise Tensor-GO’s characteristics to desired applications. Bluetooth v5.0 expands wireless connectivity by pairing with mobile devices for wireless audio streaming and transmitting audio to a second Tensor-GO system via the integrated Wireless Stereo Pairing technology.

Pro Mobile review of HH Tensor TRS-1500 and TRS-1800

I have been a DJ for 40 years (I’m also the Treasurer of the South Eastern Discotheque Association (SEDA)) and during my career have been fortunate to have owned, used, or heard many of the top-brand speakers used by both mobile DJs and bands.

I started out with Fal (Futuristic Aids Ltd) Speakers, but quickly moved on to better, though I have to admit that I have never owned any HH speakers for some strange reason. Perhaps it was the weight of the older systems that put me off!
