LEA AMPS ENHANCE AUDIO IN BOURBON COUNTRY | MAKER’S MARK

The Maker’s Mark staff wanted to ensure their facilities reflect the world-class quality of the bourbon they produce. When retrofitting an employee break room next to the bottling lines, they contacted Alex Peake, Project Manager for JCA Media, to help equip the room’s AV system. “Their goal was to have background music playing all the time, except during meetings and presentations,” said Peake. “They wanted to be able to walk in, plug in their laptop, hit the presentation preset on the touchscreen, and go. Then hit a different preset at the end of the meeting to reset the room. And that’s exactly what we did.” The background music system switches itself on before the day shift begins and shuts off late in the evening. Eight Martin ceiling loudspeakers were installed in the 30-foot by 60-foot break room, all driven by an LEA Connect Series 704. The 704 is a 4-channel amplifier with 700 watts per channel, perfectly suited for small to medium-scale installations.

With the success of the break room deployment, the distillery staff immediately pivoted to how they could improve the AV for both of the industrial bottling lines directly outside the break room. They wanted to break up the monotony of the repetitive machine sounds and make it more enjoyable for the employees who staff the area. They took advantage of the spare power that the 704 amplifier provided, powering each bottling line and the break room on separate channels, all of which is controlled by an Allen & Heath AHM-32 audio matrix processor.

The positive effect of the improved audio was contagious, resulting in the distillery staff asking JCA Media again to update an AV system, this time in the “innovation lab.” The innovation lab is a separate log cabin-esque building with red shutters the same color as the iconic red wax on their bottles. More than just a secretive area where the next generation of Maker’s Mark products are ideated and refined, the building also includes a VIP tasting area, patio, conference room and more.

The original design called for a 4-channel LEA amplifier paired with another AHM-32. One amplifier channel would drive the tasting room while another fed the patio. The final two channels were used for the conference room: one for the ceiling loudspeakers and the other powered a subwoofer. Peake added, “We were installing that and getting all up and running and they loved it so much, they said, “Okay, add audio to both the offices, the bathroom, and the kitchen. We just want background music everywhere.”

THE CONCLUSION

LEA AMPS ENHANCE AUDIO IN BOURBON COUNTRY | MAKER’S MARK

The JCA team swapped out the 4-channel amplifier for the aptly-named Connect Series 168 to support the new system requirements. Offering eight analog inputs, external I/O control for remote on/off and fault monitoring, and eight outputs at 160 watts per channel, the CS168 was more than capable of powering all aspects of the innovation lab.

The staff at Maker’s Mark was delighted with the installation and have plans for renovating other AV systems and new construction to meet the ever-increasing demands of their customers. What better way to spend a summer afternoon than sipping premium bourbon while listening to crystal-clear music in the beautiful rolling hills of Kentucky?

We would like to thank everyone at Maker’s Mark Distillery and JCA Media for choosing our amps for this killer install and we hope to provide quality sound for many years to come. 🦈

A NEW AUDIO INSTALLATION COLORS THE SOUND OF THE CELEBRATIONS IN THE CHURCH OF CASTEL GOFFREDO

There are architectural structures that present particularly demanding challenges to those involved in installing and optimizing sound systems.

This complexity is certainly found in churches and other places of worship. The team has to avoid difficult acoustic reverberations, preventing the incorrect propagation of sounds while ensuring maximum intelligibility of music and speech and still respecting precise architectural constraints, especially when it comes to historic buildings of value.

A challenge recently completed by the Piacenza IT and system integration company Inside Srl for the Church of Sant’Erasmo in Castel Goffredo, in the province of Mantua.

The parish priest of the Church, Don Giuseppe Bergamaschi, tells us:

“The idea of changing the audio system of our church was much needed for many years by all users, from the faithful to readers, from singers to instrumentalists, as well as priests. Hence we decided to entrust the renovation of the acoustic system of our church to the company Inside of Piacenza. And we are very happy because right from the start, when the rehearsals and studies were done, we went to see other systems, we realized the remarkable improvement on the performative solution we had chosen.”

From listening test to acoustic simulation

The initial need was to completely replace a dated and no longer performing audio system with a system capable of guaranteeing clear and intelligible speech, even in a very reverberant environment such as that of the Church of Sant’Erasmo.

The client – the Parish of Castel Goffredo – request to have a sound system capable of enhancing the choir, which not only animates the celebrations, but also performs in concerts inside the Church, which also hosts musical performances by other groups.

The solution proposed to the customer by the Technical Manager of Inside Cristian Sartori and his colleague Gianluca Pighi was the O-Line by Martin Audio, a micro-line array for installation in the white version made up of 2-way loudspeakers.

Manage the system remotely with LEA Professional

To manage the 8 micro line arrays installed, Inside relied on LEA Professional installation amplifiers. After discussions with the Audiosales Product Specialists, Gianluca Pighi, the team identified the appropriate solutions for the project in the 8-channel CONNECT 168D and 4-channel CONNECT 164D models, both equipped with analog and Dante inputs. The US company based in Indiana began designing amplifiers in 2019, focusing everything on performance, reliability and connectivity. It was this last aspect in particular that immediately captured the attention of the installers who chose them.

Gianluca Pighi explains it better:

“The truly innovative feature of the Connect amplifiers, of absolute convenience, is the possibility of making all the adjustments and modifications of the parameters remotely at any time. You can imagine the savings in time and money that it brings to be able to manage the amplifiers directly from the web app installed on our devices and intervene immediately if problems arise or if those on the installation site ask to change some settings”.

This is possible because all LEA products connect via Ethernet or WiFi and each one is a WiFi hot spot. LEA provides a Cloud where installers can analyze data to monitor health status and speaker settings can be saved in libraries. Ultimately, LEA Professional amplification platforms are the first true IoT devices for the professional audio installation market.

The challenge of live streaming

The Inside project for the Church of Sant’Erasmo was not limited to sound in the strict sense.

The client also requested that Masses and celebrations be broadcast live via the Castel Goffredo radio station, Radio Alfa. Many people, explains Don Giuseppe Bergamaschi, “follow Holy Mass both on weekdays and on Sundays via radio streaming. We have the church connected directly to our Alfa radio and the audio is excellent as is the video.”

Connecting the audio inside the Church with the radio was possible thanks to the Dante AVIO adapter with an analog output (ADP-DAO-AU-0X1): a need that was fully satisfied and streaming guaranteed using just one more device.

All the sound of the Church passes through the Dante network: in addition to the first one, another Audinate adapter with 2 analog outputs (ADP-DAO-AU-0X2) was used to be able to connect the parts to a small monitor serving the musician, useful during celebrations and concerts.

Tackling complex situations with the right solutions as they are reliable, functional and simple: this is what a reality like Inside srl has always done with projects for its customers and it is the same vocation of Audiosales, not only a distributor but also a consultant for its partner.

LEA AMPLIFIERS FOR POPULAR DINING | KFC MEXICO

KFC synonymous with Colonel Sanders, and its “finger‐lickin good” chicken has been a culinary delight for millions of families around the world for over 130 years. In Mexico, KFC has the distinction of being ranked by YUM Brands as its #1 franchisee in the world for its high standards, store design, and overall value to the consumer.

“Our business vision is about offering a nice environment for friends and families to enjoy a dine‐in experience,” says Alfonso Ramirez, director of Premium Restaurant Brands, which is responsible for KFC and its franchisees throughout the country. “While drive‐thru, delivery, and carry‐out are very important channels for our business, the idea of families sharing, being together and eating together in our restaurants is part of the enjoyment we want our brand and stores to foster.”

THE INSTALL

LEA AMPLIFIERS FOR POPULAR DINING | KFC MEXICO

To maintain this high standard, KFC wanted the same audio content and ambience across all of its locations and wanted the ability to control it from one place. In a country of 126 million people covering 760,000 miles, the logistics behind a project of this magnitude are daunting. Agüero and his team first needed to assess the current state of the audio systems across the various locations, and then develop a scalable solution to accommodate KFC’s plans for growth.

Signo started the process by partnering with Intéligos, a leading audio, video, and security sales company headquartered in Monterrey, Mexico. With such a large country to cover and the looming requirement for single‐source monitoring and control, Intelligos introduced Agüero and the Signo team to LEA Professional. “LEA’s products are high quality, and its technology is simple to understand and gives KFC the ability to control, monitor, and troubleshoot all locations from a single place through the Cloud. These were all key selling points for me. Intéligos handles the product, the logistics, shipping, and warehousing, and has helped ensure everything runs smoothly,” adds Agüero.

Agüero’s Signo team started with 70 stores in Phase One of the project. “We felt we had a great opportunity to make things better.” When Signo started the process 18 months ago, all of the stores played different music, at different sound levels, and in some cases, not at all. “We told the store managers to focus on their attention on serving customers. We are the experts in sound and music, and you are the experts in chicken. Together, we make a good alliance,” quips Agüero.

Intéligos recommended the LEA Connect Series 354 amplifier for each location. The LEA Connect Series 354 is a 4‐channel amplifier with 350 watts per channel, providing each KFC location with enough power to support audio content delivery. The amplifier is easy to install either through the built‐in Wi‐Fi access point, connecting with the location’s Wi‐Fi, or with an ethernet connection. “We hesitated sending a lot of product into each store,” says Agüero. “We wanted to keep it simple by assigning a standard package of one LEA CS354 amplifier and a set of Sonos speakers for each location – easy to inventory, ship, and keep track of.”

The biggest advantage for Signo now is the ability to remotely troubleshoot and fix any issue with any store from the Mexico City office. “We can also easily modify music content across locations as well as schedule amplifier on/off times to coincide with store operating hours, which can help save energy and extend the life of the products,” delights Agüero.

THE CONCLUSION

LEA AMPLIFIERS FOR POPULAR DINING | KFC MEXICO

As KFC continues implementing the LEA solution, the Cloud component will become even more critical
as the company expands its footprint throughout the country.

“This is a robust amplifier. We don’t want to have to send a technician to the desert in Sonora or some
other remote location every time a problem occurs. That would be a big cost for us and KFC,” laments
Agüero. Being able to remotely troubleshoot and fix any issue with any store from one location was the ideal scenario for KFC and Agüero’s team. “Thankfully we haven’t had one problem. The LEA solution isvery robust and reliable.”

With Phase One completed, the Signo team has developed an ideal blueprint for the balance of the project. And, above all, KFC Mexico has greater control in providing families across the country with a uniform, consistent in‐store experience – a key element to the total brand experience the company aims to achieve.

We would like to thank everyone at KFC Mexico  and Intéligos for choosing our amps for this killer install and we hope to provide quality sound for many years to come. 🦈

The nearly 150-year-old Muldraugh Hill Church in Lebanon, Kentucky is among many churches in the area to take their services to the next level by providing guests with dynamic and exceptional audio, video, and lighting.  Once a hotspot for musical entertainment with the likes of Chuck Berry, B.B. King, Creedence Clearwater revival playing relatively frequently at local clubs this town is no stranger to sound.

THE INSTALL

LEA AMPLIFIERS FOR HOUSE OF WORSHIP | MULDRAUGH BAPTIST CHURCH

When Muldraugh was seeking to upgrade their systems they reached out to a company by the name of JCA  Audio which is a premier media partner in the Bluegrass state as well as many surrounding. The company has really cornered the market on House of Worship due to its exceptional capabilities and its overall support for its customers.

“We get tired of churched being sold things they don’t need,” said Alex Peake, Project Manager for JCA Media. “we give churches what they need – quality equipment and a well-done installation. I have seen many installs where churches are sold things that are way above what was really needed for the job. Not that I don’t love quality gear, but you can go overboard with it if you’re not doing the right thing”

“We are firm believers in doing it the right way with the right gear the first time, and we won’t install low-cost, low-quality products. Our names are on it, we take pride in our work, we love what we do, and we want it to be a lasting investment for churches as well,” added Peake.

At Muldraugh Hill Baptist, the church was hampered by an aging audiovisual system in its main sanctuary. The main projector was propped up by hymnals, affectionately called ‘shymals’ projecting on the wall from a laptop down in front of the pew. The church had a center loudspeaker cluster that did not cover the space adequately, and a choir monitor was hung from 25 feet from the choir so reverberation from the walls was a challenge.

In order words, it was a challenge that JCA was well qualified to handle. “We try to go into every install with the end goal in mind,” addeded Peake. “We don’t want to lock you into a system that doesn’t allow room for growth, but at the same time, we want to give you a long-lasting system that will do the job well, fit your needs, and grow with you.”

The audio portion of the installation utilized a Danley SM100B loudspeaker, two SH Mini’s, two Cubes, and four Nanos, all powered by LEA Professional 704 and 354 Network Connect Series Smart Amplifiers. An Allen & Heath SQ-5 digital mixer runs all audio, connected to  Earthworks choir, pulpit, and piano mics fed into ACE Backstage stage pockets and six Audio-Technica wireless mics.

“We were able to take a 4-channel LEA 704 and smart power bridge the first channel for the main Danley SM100B loudspeaker. Then we connected a channel per front fill, with a danley cube on each side,” said Peake. JCA’s team then used the fourth channel for the choir monitors and the 4-channel LEA 354 powered the four stage monitors. “Both LEA amplifiers are connected to their network via a Luxul switch so that we can utilize the LEA cloud monitoring feature,” Added Peake.

“I love the Smart Power Bridge function. I can create a left-center-right (LCR) configuration with a subwoofer on a single four- channel amp because I can smart power bridge the sub on a single channel and then do LCR. That really helps a lot of our layouts,” commented Peake.

THE CONCLUSION

LEA AMPLIFIERS FOR HOUSE OF WORSHIP | MULDRAUGH BAPTIST CHURCH

The hills in Lebanon, Kentucky, are alive these days with the sound of music from Muldraugh Hill Baptist Church. The Pastor and congregants are thrilled with the new system, which helps bring renewed energy and life to weekly services and church activities.

This installation is a perfect example of how even a small system with the right gear can be incredibly powerful yet simple. One person can easily run audio, lighting, projection, and video from the Front of House.

We would like to thank everyone at Baptist Hill CHurch and JCA Media for choosing our amps for this killer install and we hope to provide quality sound for many years to come. 🦈

LEA AMPS POWER LUXURIOUS RESORT: JW MARRIOTT MARCO ISLAND

For some time, the resort had been battling with an audio system that was fragmented, and a challenge to operate and keep maintained. While different engineers had fixed issues over the years, these ‘band-aid’ solutions had only aggravated the problems. Understanding they needed a more sophisticated solution to provide guests with a sensational sound experience that would match the luxuriousness of the resort, management contacted K Systems and owner Mitchell Piper.

“When we began the ‘treasure hunt’ we started with the mechanical elements,” said Piper. “Where is all the equipment? What speakers are working; what speakers aren’t working? What wires are broken etc. And that level of discovery takes a long time. It’s like peeling away a gigantic onion. And frankly, you are always still discovering things. That’s just how these properties work, because there’s no institutional knowledge. So you have to pick it up in dribs and drabs, you have to talk to everyone, understand what their frustrations are and what they want to accomplish. Eventually a pattern emerges where you can really see the overarching concerns.”

From this level of discovery, Piper was met with two main problems: a mechanical problem and — as Piper described it – ‘a vibe problem.’ In terms of the mechanical issues, there was a severe lack of understanding as to how many of the systems of the property operated. On top of this, many of the current systems needed to be constantly rebooted. From speaking with management, Piper realized the resort needed a system that could be centrally controlled through the cloud and would be reliable enough that there would be no need for continuous rebooting. If all of these things were in place, he was confident he could restore the musical experience for guests and ultimately fix the ‘vibe’ problem.

Piper and his team ended up gutting the entire system and designing a complete redo. One of his first tasks was to find and spec out equipment that could connect to the cloud.

“On a property like this, where there are twenty different closets of equipment, it is important for management to be able to ‘see’ the entire property, either through a cloud or through a network, and then be able to control the equipment on the property through that connectivity,” commented Piper.

K Systems installed 28 LEA Professional Dante Connect Series amplifiers for maximum coverage, a mixture of 354D, 704D, 84D and 702D.

“I was pleasantly surprised by just how simple the set up was,” commented Piper. “We’re a small business, so each member of the team wears a lot of different hats. Frankly we do not have time for complexity when it comes to install protocol. When we went to install the LEA amp, I think it took me maybe five minutes to connect it to the cloud.”

CS354D

THE CONCLUSION

LEA AMPS POWER LUXURIOUS RESORT: JW MARRIOTT MARCO ISLAND

“The tools and resources available to me from LEA are terrific,” quips Piper.  “I recently installed the company’s Sharkware application software which makes it easier to locally connect to all of the amps on the property and make adjustments.” Of particular help is the simplicity around amp troubleshooting.  Each LEA amplifier features an indicator–a smiley face where everything is good, and a  frown or yikes  if there is potential trouble.  “On a property like Marco where you have two dozen amps running through the cloud, a quick scan of smiles or frowns makes identifying trouble spots a snap,” adds Piper.

As a small business, every little bit helps.  “We’re a microenterprise. I don’t have time to set a guy alone for seven hours just to learn everything, read every manual, etc. When we have a question, microenterprises are more dependent on help from manufacturers and trusting that you’re going to get that support when you need it in a timely manner is exceptionally important.  The technology I provide gives people joy and I need partners like LEA who can help me get there.”

Overall, the resort’s management has been extremely impressed with their upgraded audio system – one that is now centrally-controlled, reliable and sounds good. Piper is proud to attest that the positive musical vibe on the island has been restored and that the sound experience is now a true pleasure as well as treasure.

We would like to thank everyone at JW Marriott Marco Island Resort & K Systems for choosing our amps on this killer install and we hope our amps provide quality sounds for years to come.

Lilia Waikiki is a vibrant mixed-use development in the heart of Waikiki, one of Hawaii’s most well-known destinations for retail, lodging, dining and commercial entertainment. Opened in 2022, the 28-story residential tower features over 400 apartment units and over 40,000 square feet of neighborhood-serving retail.

“We needed to achieve distributed audio in one seamless integration. The audio needed to follow the tenant through every building touchpoint from the lobby and the mailboxes, to the elevator, recreation deck and more. Not only that, but the music would run for long periods of time, so it needed to be a very stable, reliable system,” commented Corey Lopez, Project Manager, PAC Audio.

To deliver on this brief PAC Audio required a scalable, flexible system. The company was recommended to try LEA Professional by Sonance. Once PAC Audio understood LEA Professional’s pedigree and combined 200 years of audio experience, any trepidations about using a new manufacturer disappeared.

The team chose three LEA Connect Series 168D Dante-enabled smart amplifiers for the project, installing one on the first level, and two on the 9th level of the complex. These alongside a lineup of 23 speakers – five different models – powered all of the common areas of the complex.

“The Web UI was super useful. We had amplifiers on different floors of the building and the ability to view and adjust the first-floor amp while on the ninth floor was really convenient,” commented Kale Bishop, Senior Engineer at PAC Audio.
